Local Imaging Center Receives Unique Accreditation Status

Park City Imaging, Summit County’s only comprehensive outpatient radiology facility, has just been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in MRI, CT, Mammography, and Ultrasound as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice.

“This is truly an honor for a small healthcare facility such as ours in Park City,” says Dr. John Olson, the center’s medical director. “It’s highly unusual for an outpatient center to be ACR certified in all four of its major modalities - MRI, CT, Mammography, and Ultrasound. It shows that we are dedicated to making sure patients in our community receive the highest level of care.”

In order to qualify for an ACR accreditation, a panel of board-certified physicians and medical physicists conduct extensive evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the facility’s equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

Park City Imaging is owned by three local radiologists. Dr. John Olson completed his radiology training at the University of California at Davis, has served as Chief of Outpatient Imaging for the University of Texas at Houston, and was a charter member of the American College of Radiology Committee on Managed Care. Dr. Barry Birkin attended George Washington University Medical School and completed his radiology residency at the University of Texas at Houston, working with the distinguished M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He earned a fellowship in abdominal radiology at the University of Utah. Dr. Brad Hale received his Doctor of Medicine and completed his radiology residency at the University of New Mexico. He then completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at the University of Utah. Dr. Hale specializes in diagnosing orthopedic injuries.

Patients are referred to a diagnostic imaging center such as Park City Imaging by their physician following an injury or for diagnosing other symptoms. Their scan, such as an MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammogram, or x-ray is interpreted by the radiologist and a report is given to the ordering physician to review with the patient.

Park City Imaging is located at 1850 Sidewinder Drive and is open from 8a.m. to 5p.m., Monday through Friday.
